Quality = Soul x Purpose
To what do we give ourselves?
Quality comes from pushing yourself through something. Of course, I mean hard things, but I also mean taking your life force, your “soul” if you will, and imbuing it into something that you think is worth while.
This, I believe, is why you can *feel* the difference between cheap and…not expensive, but, labored. When something is labored on, obsessed over, etc it has no choice but to become of quality, because we give a part of ourselves to it.
When something is built for purpose, by someone who deeply cares over it, you slow down time and refine every piece of it, pouring that small part of your soul into it. And when you share a piece of yourself, that small piece of soul, with the world and it connects, you get that beautiful, warm feeling.
It’s why most AI feels cheap, it was made quickly, and without the space nor effort to truly push soul through. You can of course use AI laboriously, to augment the machine *with* soul. But we know this is not how most use it.
And so, today, we are missing soul. We are missing community. And so there is a desperate attempt to be made to connect with others through creation, but no space nor time to do it. This, I believe, is why people are both creating, and now refuting, “AI Slop”
So, instead of beautiful things from labored hands, a construction and proliferation of cheap experiences dominates the airwaves. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I believe soul and machine can integrate seamlessly.
We must choose to build quality things. They will take longer, more work, but in return we will be able to enjoy a life full of rich tastes and experiences
